18. Phnom Kulen:
18.1. Road Construction in Phnom Kulen
In order to ensure the safety of the traffic and to take sufficient countermeasures for prospective risks of the new road on the eastern slope down to the village of Svai Leu, the Ad Hoc group of experts for Sustainable Development recommends:
a) eradicating possible falling rocks as many as possible, all unstable rocks on the upper side slopes of the road must be removed,
b) reducing damages of vehicles and pedestrians on the road by falling rocks as much as possible, protection walls and/or protection nets along the hillside of the road must be set up,
c) preventing the possible landslides and road collapse, sufficient and basic ground improvement works of the foundation of the road must be made.
18.2. Archaeology Development Foundation Project:
The Ad Hoc group of experts acknowledges ADF representative for his excellent presentation, combining high level actions and results in terms of archeological research and conservation with an in-depth purpose of supporting local population development by diversifying their economic activities, through ecotourism, new crops and livestock to break the vicious circle of slash/burn followed by cashew nut trees plantation.
The Ad Hoc group of experts congratulates ADF representative for his capacity to mobilize a diversity of funders and donors according to the variety of the funded actions. Such a close link between the conservation and the valorization of the Angkor heritage with a panel of integrated development projects is outstanding and could be seen as a model for many of the other projects looking for a favorable opinion by the ICC in the same area.
