2. DEFORESTATION AND STONE DECAY: THE CASE OF SANDSTONE EROSION AT “TA KEO”

Obviously a sustainable management of the Angkor Park also implies a sustainable conservation of stone.
The preliminary assessment work, carried out within the framework of the Ta Keo Project by Professor Marie-Francoise ANDRE (Université Blaise Pascal, Clermont Ferrand), have highlighted the link between deforestation and stone decay acceleration process.
As the Ta Keo project already benefits from large fundings and considering the importance of this issue, the Committee recommends that the project continue, be approved by the APSARA National Authority and be granted additional contributions.
