32. Concrete surfacing of rural roads:

For years, in the rural areas inside Angkor Park, there has been a gradual deterioration of the roadways, especially during rainy periods. The local communities continue to suffer and are asking that the situation be improved.
After consultation among the ad hoc experts, it is recommended to:
a) Follow up on the wishes of the communities and to resurface laterite roads with concrete;
b) Find a sustainable, cost-effective solution regarding the color of the future concrete surfacing, which is not very compatible with the forest environment;
c) Encourage ANA to use, whenever necessary, the insertion of a plastic layer to protect and access archaeological strata, where appropriate, when developing rural roads;
d) Build up vegetation cover along rural roads.
