7. Western Baray:

With regard to operations underway near the Western Baray, a major monument on the World Heritage Site and on the basis of a visit made by the Ad Hoc Group of Experts along with the director of the Department of Monuments and Archaeology, the ICC recommends:

1. That implementation of the program be continued in keeping with the operating plan developed on the basis of the agreement entered into between the Ministry of Water Resources and the APSARA National Authority.
2. That the operations be monitored regularly by the Secretariat.

The Committee also expresses its confidence in His Excellency the Governor of Siem Reap in the matter of safeguarding the integrity of the banks of the Western Baray and preventing uncontrolled urban extension.

The Committee would furthermore like to highlight the need to resolve in the most humane way possible any social problems that may arise.
