TRAINING PROGRAMME IN CONSERVATION TECHNIQUES (University of Pa-lermo – Italy):

This programme follows an agreement signed between the Cambodian Minis-try of Culture and Fine Arts (Royal University of Fine Arts) and the APSARA Na-tional Authority, on the one hand, and the University of Palermo, on the other hand, to train trainers in the field of conservation of heritage items in stone, wood and metal.

The training organised at the Angkor Conservancy has included lectures (three hours per day) and practical courses (five hours per day). Twenty trainees (thir-teen from the APSARA, three from the National Authority for Preah Vihear and four graduates from the Royal University of Fine Arts) have attended the train-ing programme.

This programme has proved to be successful in all respects.

The extension of the programme is strongly recommended beyond its second year of implementation (2013), so that the Italian Government and the University of Palermo may continue their efforts in order to ensure its financing and smooth implementation.
