14. NORTHERN GATE (DAI CHHNANG GATE):

The ad hoc group of experts:
a) Notes the presence of masonry in the excavations, suggesting that the original position of the wall was further to the east.
b) Challenges the reason why the French team chose that location and requests that a study of the archives be made (bridge constraints, construction times, etc.) to get insight as to the reason for the choices made back then.
c) Meanwhile, recommends that the excavations be temporarily covered over using waterproof sheeting and that the work be documented.
d) Nevertheless, looking at the major restoration work programs needed on the Angkor site, finds that it is not really necessary to modify this roadbed in the immediate future. It would be good to publish the findings and provide in situ indications in order to inform the public regarding this potential approach.
e) However, recommends that the consolidation work be implemented as a matter of urgency.
