Hydraulic work site to the north of the Angkor site (APSARA):

a. Welcomes the implementation, to the north of the Angkor site, in a context of urgency, of major operations that have enabled the discovery of ancient canals or the cleaning out of others.

b. Expresses its appreciation for the quality rehabilitation work done on an entire section of ancient canals and the methodology adopted for developing and implementing this project (upstream archaeological investigation, special attention to the interests of the local communities, etc.);

c. Congratulates the team led by Dr. Hang Peou for these initial achievements that have already made it possible to safeguard the World Heritage Site as well as the airport zone and the lower reaches of the city of Siem Reap against the effects of floods that occurred during the last rainy season;

d. Suggests that provision be made to set up the structured management (computerized, if possible) of the sluice gates of these structures to deal with emergencies as well as to optimize use of the water resource.
